Description	:	Alvin M. Janssen, 77, of East Wenatchee, died Thursday, May 22, 1997, following a sudden illness. Alvin Martin Janssen was born Aug. 2, 1919, in Douglas County to John H. and Rose M. (Mathis) Janssen and attended grade school at District 15 and graduated from Waterville High School. He held a teaching degree from Eastern Washington College and a M.A. in public schools administration from Washington State University. Alvin Martin Janssen was born Aug. 2, 1919, in Douglas County to John H. and Rose M. (Mathis) Janssen and attended grade school at District 15 and graduated from Waterville High School. He held a teaching degree from Eastern Washington College and a M.A. in public schools administration from Washington State University. Most of his classroom work included general science, chemistry, physics and history. He served as principal in all three grade levels. The last 21 years were spent as superintendent in Okanogan and Eastmont. In 1948, he married Bonita Beattie of Spokane and to the marriage three children were born. They are Janet LeBeau of Yakima, Dale of Seattle, and Mary Ballard of East Wenatchee. Al taught science in the East Wenatchee Junior High in the early '40s and returned in 1966 to end his 33-year career in 1976. Al was a former Okanogan Kiwanis member, State Lung Association Board of Directors, YMCA Board of Directors and Eastmont Presbyterian Church elder. In college, Al was known as "Doc" because he was a handyman able to fix the most challenging repair. Dad was usually found in the shop puttering on his latest wood projects such as making cabinets, clocks and the grandkids' jeep. He enjoyed swimming at the Y and motorcycling weekly to explore the backroads of the area. Our dad will be remembered in his kids' and grandkids' actions. He wanted us to do our best, be involved and "to count our blessings." Al was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; a daughter, Janet (Jule) LeBeau, and their children, Janel and Joey; a daughter, Mary (Jeff) Ballard, and their children, Nicole, Jeff and Greg, and a son, Dale (Patty) Janssen. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
