Alvina passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Mobridge Regional Hospital. Alvina Sally Dobler was born July 7th, 1939 to Jacob and Katy (Lanitz) Jochim in Selfridge, North Dakota where she grew up on the family farm. On June 1st, 1959 Alvina married Lloyd Dobler where they made their home in McLaughlin, South Dakota. Alvina proceeded to become an entrepreneur in McLaughlin by starting a restaurant business with the names Dobler Cafe and Three Sons Restaurant. Throughout her life she worked hard to bring the residents of McLaughlin hot meals every single day while raising her three boys Shane, Zane and Payne. In 1987, Alvina and Lloyd moved to Mobridge, South Dakota. Alvina continued to work in the restaurant business by running the restaurants at the Mobridge Sale Barn and Mobridge Country Club. While living in Mobridge, Alvina also worked at the convenience store and cooked meals at the Senior Center up until her retirement. During her retirement years she became known as the premiere quilt maker in the community including making intricate quilts for the troops, veterans and cancer patients as well as countless spiritual star quilts for the local Native American high school graduates. Alvina will be remembered for her lively spirit and constant optimism. She was very strong in her faith and always seemed to brighten the room the moment she walked in. Alvina never met a person she didn’t like and her spirit and spunk automatically attracted people to her. The community will all have different memories of Alvina but some of the highlights will include being a pet lover, a quilt maker and being an active member of the Legion Auxiliary. She was always festive for every holiday and always wore a funky outfit to match her funky spirit. She was a tremendous mother and grandmother as well as an extremely loyal friend to countless people throughout the community. Alvina is survived by her three sons and 2 daughter-in-laws. She is also survived by seven grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by three great grandchildren. Alvina is survived by three brothers. Alvina was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years Lloyd Dobler, who passed in 2008. She was preceded in death by her siblings Dorothy Mosset and her twin brother Leo Jochim. In lieu of flowers Alvina’s wishes were to have donations made to the Legion Auxiliary in her name.
