Her death was expected for some time, as she was very low with consumption, which was hereditary. She had been ill during the past few years, but not dangerously so until a couple months back, when her condition became alarming. She went to a hospital at Omaha and from there to the Pulmonary Sanitarium in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. But the best of treatment was of no avail and she grew worse until a couple of weeks ago she was brought home, arriving here on the 17th of March. She was taken to the Zerzan home and there died. Emma was born on Christmas day, 1877, and was 20 years, 2 months, and 22 days of age - just at the age when life seems dearest. She was born in Schuyler and has lived here since. Her mother died in December, 1889, and she was then but twelve years of age, yet she was quite capable of keeping the home for her father and three brothers, and in that she showed that she was possessed of exceptionally good and womanly ways. The father died in July, 1895, and after that the home was kept by her for her brothers until illness caused it otherwise and now it is closed forever. Three brothers are left now, being George, who has been at Anaconda, Montana, Ed, who is assistant cashier in the Central Nebraska National Bank at David City, and Charles, the youngest of the family, still at home. The funeral was held on Wednesday at the Zerzan home, Father Jungels, conducting the services here, as Miss Emma was a member of the Catholic church. After the services here the body was taken t the B. & M. depot and there a special train awaited to carry the people over to Abie, Butler county, whre further services were conducted in the church by Father Zalut. The train was necessary owing to the wagon bridge being out. The services were very touching and the music was lovely, Mrs. M. M. Huck and Misses Jennie McRae, Viola Jennings, and Bertha Held taking prominent parts in rendering same. A number of beautiful flowers were in evidence of the esteem and igh regard in which the deceased was held. After the services at Abie the body was buried in the cemetery there where the parents both lie. The sad death of Miss Emma is a sore affliction not onlhy to the family and relatives, but to her many friends in Schuyler and vicinity. She was a very bright and pretty girl who met her trials of life in so pleasant a manner as to command admiration. In spite of the many cares of life which she had, never was complaint heard nor sorrow shown. Light hearted and bright were her ways and that home with both parents gone was still a home of peace and joy. She was an accomplished pianist and her music and song were ever a part of her existence. In fact her piano playing in public less than three months ago is one thing that makes the fact of her being no more so difficult to know. Her bright and womanly ways were such as to win many hearts to her and make death so deeply mourned, and yet the knowledge of her good and pure life, her cheerful ways, her excellent deportment at home and elsewhere, is a solace for all as it tells of her present and future. Just as she reached the happiest time in womanhood, just when ife seemed dear and sweet to her, just as her future lay before her in all brightness of happy anticipation, the terrible and swift ravages of a dreadful disease tear her from her home and friends and give her over to death. AS the rose is budded and for a time presents the period of purity, sweetness, and grace then blooms to maturity with a beauty and fullness that commands admiration and stirs within the beholder the better elements of nature, then to be ruthlessly torn from its place by some fierce, pitiless hand to pass from sight of loved ones forever, where decay must alone follow, goes the soul and it is a transplanting where decay comes not and withering is unknown, where the rose blooms in increased loveliness for eternity. _______________ Card of Thanks.
