'''''''''''' The Quill (Schuyler, Nebr.), July 16, 1896, p. 3, col. 5 On Saturday morning, July 11, at his home in this city, Joseph Dworak died from cancer of the stomach, aged 52 years, 3 months, and 24 days. He had been a sufferer for sometime, yet had been up and about his business affairs until a comparatively short time before his death. He was born in Bohemia on March 17, 1844, and came to this country at nine years of age with his parents, who settled first in Wisconsin and later came to Nebraska, locating in Butler county, near Abie. The deceased lived at St. Louis for a time and was one of the early pioneers of Nebraska. He later located in Omaha where he was in the mercantile business until in 1872 when he came to Schuyler. He served as county clerk for this county four years, being elected by a flattering vote. He was in the hardware business as a member of the firms of Dworak, Mefferd & Company, Dworak & Kudrna, and Dworak & Hughes and he has for many years been clerk in stores of this city. In October, 1871, he was joined in marriage in Omaha to Miss Anna Shonka who died on December 15, 1889. Four children were born to them, who are still living, being George W., who is in a law office at David City, Edward J., cashier of a bank at Bruno, and Emma A. and Charles F.. who are still at home. The funeral was held on Monday, the 13th, the services being conducted in the Catholic church in this city by Father Jungels. A large congregation of relatives and friends were in attendance to pay their respects to the memory of the deceased and the members of the Modern Woodmen of America, Woodmen of the World, and Ancient Order of United Workmen, of which he was a member, turned out in body. The burial was made later in the cemtery near Abie where his wife was buried. At the funeral there were many beautiful floral offerings from his friens. The four children are grown to manhood and womanhood, except the younger, Charles, who is fifteen years of age. They are left with a home and $4,000 in life insurance in fraternal lodges will be paid them, hence the family is well provided for. Thus one more of our earliest settlers and one of our honest and respected citizens passes away. He was a man well liked by his acquaintances and his friends were many.
