G. Wood of the Brethren Church, assisted by William Davis, conducted the service. Both were old family friends. The singers were Carrie McPheron, Ora Shoemaker, Miss Verdie Shoemaker, and Jess Pigg, accompanied by Mrs. Ora Shoemaker. Earl Konantz sang a solo. Burial was in Pleasant View cemetery. Mrs. Amanda Jane Givens was born and reared on the Givens homestead, eight miles south of Fort Scott. She departed this life at the same place at 8 o'clock Wednesday morning, August 5, 1931 at the age of sixty years. She was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs Alexander Givens, who were Bourbon County pioneers. The Givens family came to Kansas from Kentucky and were among the early settlers of this county. Her parents preceded her in death many years ago. Her brother, Samuel A, and two sisters, Amelia Hannah and Bessie, are deceased. The following brothers and sisters survive her: Robert A. of Fort Scott; Mrs. Margaret J. Driver of Fort Scott; Mrs. Harriett Guin of Oklahoma; and Comodore Givens of the home place. She was married to Daniel Wagner and to this union one child was born. Both are deceased.
