Thompson CA Amanda 1883-1915 The Newell Mirror - Thursday , January 28th, 1915 - AMANDA POINT was born in Coon township, Buena Vista Co., Iowa, August 16, 1882, and died at Newell, Iowa, Jan. 18,1915, aged 32 yr., 5 mos., and 2 days. Amanda was the youngest child of Libbeous and Elizabeth Point. She spent her girlhood days on the farm four miles north of Newell. In 1898 she was married to Ed. McCue. To their union three daughters were born: Ida May, age twelve, Ella Fay, age ten, and Doris Opal, age seven. Mrs. McCue has lived in Hanford and Dinuba, California for the past ten-years. Last September she came to Storm Lake. About the first of October she came to Newell where she took up her residence. Relatives and friends did all that was possible to make Mrs. McCue and her children comfortable. For the past six years she has been a sufferer of a complication of diseases. Her last illness lasted about a week. Everything that could be done for her comfort and restoration to health was administered by the ones who cared for her. Her gentle spirit departed to the great beyond Monday evening. Jan. 18, 1915. She was a loving and devoted mother and her last thoughts were for the welfare of her little ones. Besides her three daughters named above Mrs. McCue leaves six sisters and four brothers to mourn her loss: Mrs. Mary Robinson and Mrs. Neil Nieman, both living in Ohio; Mrs. Anne Wetherall of Newell, Mrs. Lillie Greenwood and Mrs. Frances Hunt, both of Storm Lake, and Mrs. Emma Thompson of Tulare, California; Henry C. and Frank L. of Newell, Will of, Pocahontas, and Nathan S. of Slayton, Minn. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 20, 1915, at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. Jas. E. Holden preached a beautiful and helpful sermon. Appropriate and beautiful music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. Ed. Miller, Mrs. Jas. E. Brown, Mrs. W.E. Ellison and Miss Agnes Chaney, with Miss Elsie Brown as accompanist. Beautiful flowers were contributed by relatives and friends. Those who acted as pall bearers were A.E. Couch, J.C. Burton, Floyd Bellows, John Bellows, Frank Williams and W.J. Newton. At the conclusion of the services Mrs. McCue was laid at rest beside her father and mother in Newell cemetery. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Nathan Point and son Louis of Slayton, Minn., Will Point of Pocahontas, Mrs. Frances Hunt and Mrs. Lillie Greenwood and her two daughters, Verna and Mabel, all of Storm Lake.
