She was born Aug. 9, 1904, in Lincoln, Neb., the daughter of Russian-German immigrants, William and Anna Katherine Klippert Benner, Sr. At the age of 4, she and her family moved to Park City, where they farmed and ranched. She was born Aug. 9, 1904, in Lincoln, Neb., the daughter of Russian-German immigrants, William and Anna Katherine Klippert Benner, Sr. At the age of 4, she and her family moved to Park City, where they farmed and ranched. She attended school in Park City and was confirmed on April 13, 1919, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Park City. Rev. 2: 10 was her confirmation verse. "Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life." When she was in her late teens, she and her cousin, Beth Zoppelli, hitchhiked to Denver, where they got jobs as cooks and nannies with wealthy families. After a couple of years, they hitchhiked to California to attend cosmetology school. The two cousins worked as cooks and nannies in the homes of movie stars such as Henry Fonda and Nelson Eddy. It was during this time that she met artist Norman Rockwell and he painted her portrait for an illustration in Collier's Magazine. When she sent the printed illustration home, her family was scandalized that she would pose for an artist, even one as wholesome as Rockwell. Amelia returned home to care for her parents on the family farm at Park City and continued to live on the farm after her parents' deaths. She was an excellent cook and made wonderful jelly rolls and pastries. In 1989, she moved to St. Johns Lutheran Home in Billings. She is remembered by residents and staff at St. John's by her melodic "yoo-hoo." She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Margaret Sitzman and her husband Sam, Katherine Mohr and her husband John; and brothers Jacob Benner and his wife Mary, and William Benner. Her family wishes to thank the caregivers at St. Johns who cared for our aunt for the last 16 years. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Park City, with interment in Park City Cemetery. A reception will be held at the church following the graveside service. Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel is in charge of arrangements. No visitation.
