Logan, wife of Hugh Logan, was born March 27, 1859, near Pella, Iowa, and passed away at the family home in Seward, Nebraska, Saturday morning, June 24, at 10:35 o'clock, aged 63 years, 2 months and 24 days. The illness of the deceased was of two or three years' duration, but not until ten weeks ago was her condition alarming. America A. Betzer was the oldest child of James H. and Rhoda Clementine Betzer, and spent her childhood and youth in the town of her birth until coming to Seward with her parents in 1878. On Septemer 21, 1880, she was united in marriage to Hugh Logan of Keokuk, Iowa, and for two years resided at Council Bluffs, Iowa. In the spring of 1882, they moved to Fairmont, Nebraska, and a few years later to Seward, where she has since resided. To this union were born four sons, James T., Harry (Welby Harrison) and Donald F., one son, Willie, having passed away in infancy. The husband and sons, together with a daughter, Mrs. Alpha Gibb, were at the bedside when the end came as peacefully as a beautiful summer day, when daylight fades into night with increasing loveliness. The deceased was a member of the Presbyterian church, and while not always able to attend services as often as she desired, yet took a great interest in the work, and passed away with the full confidence that all was well between her and her Savior. Besides her immediate family circle she leaves two sisters and two brothers to mourn her departure. They are Mrs. C. M. Hall of Reardan, Washington; Mrs. Alfred E. (May) Wood of Bossburg, Washington; Welby S. Betzer of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, and Elmer E. Betzer of Seward. Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church at 2 o'clock on Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Ralph Pinkham of the Congregational church.
