She was born in Seattle to Peter T. and Ruth Elizabeth Anderson. Amerylis lived in Chehalis until her father's death. Her mother bought a photography studio and moved the family to Prosser, where she graduated from high school. This is where she met and married Elwood Mercer in 1937. He preceded her in death in 2004. The couple spent several years in Prosser before moving to Seattle, then Bremerton, where Elwood worked as an electrician in the power plant at PSNS. Amerylis worked for several years as a beautician before buying Cinderella Beauty School, where she taught for many more years, until she and Elwood retired and began traveling all over the U.S. in their 5th wheeler. Amerylis loved to read books of all kinds but especially English History stories. She loved to sew, and did massive work in genealogy for both sides of the family. She was a past guardian of Job's Daughters Bethel #20 in Bremerton and a member of Olympic Chapter OES, having just received her 50-year pin last year.
