Eerdmans Publishing Company; Grand Rapids, Mich: 1930 AMOS DEMING Born in New York state in 1830, Amos Deming moved to Norwalk, Ohio, when a small boy with his parents, and his father, buying a farm, the boy, Amos, found plenty of interesting occupations sandwiched in with going to school. He was married in 1855 to Miss Margaret Denee who came from New Jersey and in 1865 they came to Allegan county, locating first in Cheshire on a farm, for a short time, then to Saugatuck which then they made their home, and to which home came five daughters, Mary, Mrs. W. G. Phelps; Fannie, Mrs. W. Pond; Althea, Mrs. S. L. Newnham; Ida, Mrs. John Brown; and Ella, Mrs. A. D. Goodrich, who with the exception of Mrs. Brown are living. Mr. Deming engaged in farming, mill work, and for many years he drove the stage between Saugatuck and New Richmond and never missed a trip, no matter how stormy or how deep the snow; the storms that stopped railroad transportation never interfered with his schedule. He died at the age of 85 followed in a few years by his splendid wife, each having rounded out more than four score years. ---- Obit gives b. 1831, but death cert says 1830 b.
