Read More	The Valley Falls Vindicator, 23 Jan 1975, p 6, c 5 AMPIE DELK Ampie Delk, 86, Valley Falls, died unexpectedly Friday afternoon in a Winchester nursing home where he had resided the past three years. He was born Nov. 6, 1888, at Mount Pisgah, Ky. When a small boy he came to Kansas with his widowed mother, two brothers and a sister, to make their home with an uncle, Print Huff at Valley Falls. His mother Gertrude Delk Wiley and his sister, Mrs. Howard (Effie) McNeel, Nortonville, preceded him in death. From his early youth, Mr. Delk was a farmer and a dealer of horses and mules. He had a great love for horses and for a number of years followed the racing circuits with his own pacers and trotters. Many fans will remember his beloved horses, Happy Hal and Thelma Kern. Mr. Delk was married to Minnie Booth on Nov. 16, 1913. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Diehl, of the home, and two brothers, Ferd Delk, Valley Falls, and Perk Delk, Perry, and one nephew, George Delk, Huntsville, Ala. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m., at the Nellis-Hagge Funeral Home in Valley Falls. The Rev. Ted L. Hunter officiated. Mrs. Raymond Lassiter sang "In the Garden", accompanied by Mrs. Albert F. Hagge at the organ. Casket bearers were Ralph Ferrell, Lloyd Lewton, Art Metzger, Pat Davies, Ed Kyle, and Orval Meredith. Burial was in the Valley Falls cemetery under direction of the Nellis-Hagge Funeral Home at Valley Falls Memorials to the Kansas Heart Association.
