Elof Martin Axelson and Nellie Anderson Axelson. At 3 months old, he and his family relocated to the small Indian village of Yakutat, Alaska, where his father served the Swedish Covenant Church as a missionary teacher. He completed high school at Seattle Pacific Academy. In 1935, he received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Washington. On June 4, 1936, he married Anna Pearl Steiner. The couple made their home on Dyes Inlet in Bremerton. Mr. Axelson worked as an electrical engineer at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from 1941 until his retirement in 1966. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His faith in God was very important to him. Mr. Axelson was a member of Lincoln Avenue Bible Church in Bremerton (formerly First Presbyterian) for 62 years. He served the church as building chairman, Sunday school superintendent, choir director, elder and soloist. He enjoyed music, sports and fishing. Survivors include his wife, now of Crista Shores in Silverdale; a son, the Rev. Philip Martin Axelson of Barrington, R.I.; a daughter, Myrna (Axelson) Anderson of London and Bremerton; a brother, Wayne Axelson of Sammamish; five grandchildren, Cami, David, Peter, Mark and Kristin; and nine great-grandchildren, Cari, Axel, Neli, Matthew, Jonathan, Lindsey, Caleb, Anna Sue and Yalith. A brother, Clifford Axelson, preceded him in death. A memorial service was held Oct. 26 at Lincoln Avenue Bible Church. Memorial donations may be made to Lincoln Avenue Bible Church, 1250 Lincoln Ave., Bremerton, WA 98310.
