Humphrey, daughter of the late Philo Humphrey, was born at Tipton, Ia., July 9, 1857. While a young girl she moved with her family to Story county, Iowa, living on a farm there until October 28, 1885, on which date she was married at Nevada, Ia., to David Starr, coming immediately to this county where they resided on a farm in Vernon township.... Sept 5, 1940 - Emmetsburg Reporter - Following is the obituary of Mrs. David Starr, brief mention of whose death appeared in last week's issue: Amy E. Humphrey, daughter of the late Philo Humphrey, was born at Tipton, Ia., July 9, 1857. While a young girl she moved with her family to Story county, Iowa, living on a farm there until October 28, 1885, on which date she was married at Nevada, Ia., to David Starr, coming immediately to this county where they resided on a farm in Vernon township. In 1891, they moved to Emmetsburg where she lived until death. For a few years after the death of her husband about twelve years ago, she continued to live in the family home but in recent years, due to failing health, she made her home with her daughters, Mrs W.C. Richardson and Mrs D.L. Johnson. Hers was a beautiful Christian character, conscientious, patient, unselfish, kind and loving. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The following members of the Starr family survive: Carl Starr, Mrs. W.C. Richardson, Mrs. D.L. Johnson, and Mrs. Lulu Whirry all of Emmetsburg, Mrs. Edith L Moore of Watsonville, Cal., and Dr. Freeman Starr of Mason City, all step-children of the deceased. In addition to the above there are eighteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grand children to mourn her loss. Those from out of town who came to attend the funeral were Dr. Freeman Starr and wife and Dr. Ralph Smiley and wife of Mason City, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnson and Glenn Johnson of Algona.
