Another one of Harper’s prominent citizens has answered to the “roll call up yonder.” Last Friday Night Amize Godden Patterson, after a lingering illness of several months, closed his eyes to earthly things and passed over the dark river to his eternal home. The real cause of Mr. Patterson’s death is not definitely known. The deceased has been identified with the religious, social, and commercial welfare of Harper City from its infancy. He came to this county when most of it was still in its virginity and located in Harper, then the terminus of the Santa Fe Railroad. He had not been here long until he, toe, imbibed the spirit of progress and advancement which is so characteristic of her citizens. He caused to be built a handsome two story hotel at the cost of $20,000 which still bears his name. He also had erected a fine residence. Mr. Patterson was a whole souled public spirited man who was ever ready to lend a helping hand to any movement that was for the improvement of the city. He was a pleasant Christian gentleman and was universally liked by the people of Harper city. In his death, Harper looses a valuable citizen; the Presbyterians a loyal member, the wife a kind and devoted husband and the children, a dutiful and loving father.
