Anabel passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, after a short illness. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Villisca Rescue or Villisca Good Samaritan Society. Anabel Theresa Fryer was born March 10, 1928 in Adams County, Iowa; a daughter of James and Lula (Curry) Casey. She was raised on the family farm near Griswold. Anabel’s brother, often known as the Flying Farmers, had their own airport on the family farm. All the Casey brothers, along with Anabel had private pilot’s licenses. Anabel was the first female to fly into the Clarinda Flight Breakfast and was presented a dozen roses. Anabel was united in marriage to Frank LeRoy Fryer on October 27, 1945 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Red Oak, Iowa. This union was blessed with four daughters: Charlotte, Linda, Sherry, and Shelia. Anabel was the Activities Director at the Villisca Good Samaritan for 37 years. She was responsible for starting the Activities Program in Villisca under State Guidelines. She was also instrumental in the training go Activity Directors throughout the state. She was a long standing active member at the St Joseph Catholic Church in Villisca and was involved with the Neighborhood Watch Club. Anabel enjoyed hunting and fishing with Frank as well as tending to her garden. She also enjoyed traveling, going to visit her daughter and their families. Anabel retired from work shortly after Frank’s passing in August 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank; brothers, Joe, Frank, Earl, and Carl; sister, Marie Sullivan and son-in-law, Art Horton. Surviving Anabel are her daughters, his daughters: Charlotte (Terry) Gouger of Omaha, Nebraska, Linda (Dennis) Gourley of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Sherry (Denny) Wagoner of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Sheila Fryer of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandchildren Lori Vanderberg, Greg Gibson, Ray Gibson, Allison Gourley, Tyler Gourley, Montana Gourley, Jess Hoyt, Brooke Hoyt, Cally Hoyt-Unger, Casey Ferguson, and Adrian Wolfe; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Bill (Marie) Casey of Griswold, Iowa and Dr. Don (LaDeane) Casey of Paradise Valley, Arizona; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
