"Obituary Andrew Metzger. The subject of this sketch was born in Germany, February 1, 1823, and came to this country when a lad of seventeen. He went to California, where January 21, 1865, he enlisted in the army and served three years, at which time he received an honorable discharge and returned to this state, and September 22, 1868, he was married to Mrs. Elizabeth Stewart. To this union was born one son, George, who is left to mourn a father's loss. He had been in poor health for some time, but had been confined to the house but nine days, during which time his faithful and devoted wife was ever ready to obey his slightest wish; but the call came on the morning of July 5, and at 6 a.m. his spirit took its flight to that land from which no traveler returns. He was a faithful and devoted husband and father, an honest and upright man, with the love and respect of his fellow-citizens. He was a member of the G. A. R. who turned out in honor of his memory. His labors are ended and he has passed to his reward. We may also remark that two sisters and two brothers survive him. Both the sisters are residents of Brookville. One of the brothers is a resident of Texas, and the other lives in Illinois. The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. D. L. Chapin." According to St Thomas Lutheran Church records, page 297, Andreas was born Jan 1823 and died 5 July 1895.
