Description	:	Andrew was the son of John Barr and Ann Houston. He married Agnes Reid July 19, 1841 in Scotland. They immigrated in 1850 to Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of 6 children: Matthew, John, Duncan, Sept 29, 1903 - Carroll Sentinel - Andrew Barr was born at Huston, Scotland, March 15, 1809. He was married to Agnes Reid July 19, 1841. Six children were born to this union, five sons and one daughter. Three of the sons survive him, Matthew and John, who reside southwest of Carroll, and Duncan Barr of Nebraska. His wife died February 12, 1848, and lies buried at Paisley, Scotland. In 1850, at the age of 47 years, he moved with his family to Ontario, Canada, living there until 1872 when he and his sons moved to Carroll county where he has since resided with his son, John Barr. He united with the established church in Scotland, but during his residence in Ontario his membership was in the Canadian Methodist church. In 1878 he joined the Carroll Presbyterian church and has been its oldest member for some years. He was most loyal to the Bible and the church of his choice, and a very regular attendant upon the services, sometimes walking many miles to be present, but the feebleness of old age twelve or more years ago deprived him of the privilege of church attendance. His earthly pilgrimage ended Tuesday evening, September 22, 1903. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Thursday afternoon, attended by a large concourse of acquantances and friends. His sons, John and Matthew, are now in Scotland and as yet know nothing of his decease. The pastor, W.H. Jordan, spoke from Job 5-26, "Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age like is shock of corn cometh in its season." .... Andrew Barr is an illustration of the text. God put nearly a century between the cradle and the grave. He lived a fourth of a century on borrowed time. He passed for an old man before many of us were born. Almost all our national history has been made since his birth. Not a train had been built, not a telegraph instrument had clicked until he was a young man. He was more than half a century of age when Cyrus Field completed the laying of the Atlantic cable. During his life-time France has changed her government seven times. A full age, like as a shock of corn, not blasted but full of grain. Storm and sunshine, prosperity and adversity made the Christian character more rugged. Like a tree planted by the river whose leaf fades not, he brings forth his fruit in its season. The wicked shall not live out half their days but with long life he satisfied his servant. Let us rejoice that he is now at rest. The greater sorrow is in the absent sons who visited their mother's grave at Paisley, little thinking of their father's new made grave which they will so soon visit.
