Colaw, died July 5, 1919, aged 86 years 9 months and 13 days, he was buried in the old Colaw graveyard beside his wife who died 43 years ago and who before her marriage was Catherine Hammer Meadows, leaves two children, Mrs. Emma Nelson, with whom he lived and Iola Fitzwater, of St. George, W.Va., and one step daughter, Mary Colaw, and one step son, Ambrose Meadows, one brother, Daniel Colaw, and many grandchildren and friends to mourn his loss. He did not connect himself with any church, yet his name was a synonym for honesty and christian living. He was kind to the poor, they never went away from his door empty handed. He was a great reader and had a good memory. He loved the young soldier boys and enjoyed their letters. He was a lifelong reader of the bible, he wore the white flower of a blameless life. Funeral services were held at the home by Rev. Lindamood, those attending the funeral from a distance were Ambrose Meadows and daughter Lillie, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Hammer, Harper Rymer, Mr. and Mrs. Harper Hinkle, Mr. and Mrs. John Hammer, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Puffenbarger, and others. Company K, 25th Virginia Infantry Regiment. Company D, 62nd Virginia Mounted Infantry Regiment.
