Saturday the remains of Uncle Andy Carroll were laid to rest in Bacon Chapel cemetery. Another old pioneer and highly respected citizen. Shelbina Democrat (Shelbina, MO), 1916-02-09, page 8 column 3 Andrew J. Carroll Andrew J. Carroll was born in Indianapolis, Ind., April 15, 1832. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. M. Swinney, in Macon, Mo. February 4, 1916, after a very short illness of pneumonia, yielding up to his Maker his spirit and life which was given him a little over 83 years ago. Early in life be came to Missouri with his parents and settled in Moniteau county where be grew to manhood and spent many happy days. He was married in 1856 to Mrs. Mary Wingate, and to this union there was born four children, Mrs. J. M. Swinney, of Macon, Mo,; F. Carroll, of Clarence, Mo.; Wm. Carroll, deceased, and Rev. Robert L. Carroll, of Pawhuska, Okla. His wife died on Jan. 8, 1870, and he was married again to Mrs. Morial Hayden on March 22, 1871; to this union three children were born, Spencer, the eldest, deceased, Mrs. Maggie Hopper, of Tacoma, Wash.; T. A Carroll, of Denver, Colo. His last wife preceded him to the spirit world some five or six years ago. Since then he has made his home with his children. He was an ideal specimen of the hardy pioneer, and in the early days was noted as a great singer. He united with the M. E. Church at Bacon Chapel many years ago and lived and died in the faith that makes and keeps us ready for the end of life. He was cousin to the late Benjamin W. Carroll, and the writer never spent a happier moment in all our life than the ones we spent listening to these two old pioneers tell of the ups and owns of their early life. His remains were brought to Bacon Chapel Saturday for interment, accompanied by a number of relatives and friends. The funeral was preached by the Rev. Smith of the M. E. Church, South, of Macon, and those who heard it pronounced it one of the best ever delivered at this place. Thus we note the passing of another of our old and familiar landmarks, one who has seen a generation born, live, and die for he not only was permitted to live the allotted time of three score years and ten but more than four score was given to him in which he could prepare to live again on the other side.
