ERICKSON Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Andrew J. Erickson at the Covenant Church. The Rev. Melvin O Pederson, assisted by the Rev. R. E. Hammer of Stromsburg officiated under the direction of the Bressler Funeral Home. Duets were sung by Mrs. Clarence Holm and Mrs. Reuben Holm, accompanied by Mrs. Harry Wendel at the organ. Pallbearers were Harold Lavene, Raymond Anderson, Clarence Holm, Elvin Olson, Levi Helgren, and Fred Ludin. Interment was in the Wakefield Cemetery. Andrew John Erickson was born July 19, 1867, in Linkoping, Smaland, Sweden, the son of Eric and Louisa Peterson. He was baptized in the State Lutheran Church of Sweden, and attended school in his boyhood. He was confirmed in Sweden at 15 years of age. In 1883 he arrived in America and worked at Essex, Page County, Iowa and attended the Fremont Covenant Chruch. In 1887 he moved to Wakefield, Nebraska and began farming northeast of town. On March 3, 1893 he was married to Ida Hart of Essex, Page County, Iowa. To this union were born seven children, Bernard of Pasadena, California; Edoff of Hordville, Nebraska; Mrs. Ruth Carlfelt of Chicago, Illinois; Emmett of Lincoln, Nebraska; Mrs. Ebba Anderson of Oakland, Nebraska; Joseph of Wakefield, Nebraska; and David who passed away after an illness in 1929, at 21 years of age. In 1917, John Erickson moved to a farm northwest of Wakefield, Nebraska, where he lived until 1931 when he and Mrs. Erickson moved into the town of Wakefield where they lived until 1948. Mrs. Erickson preceded him in death in 1943. One event they cherished was a golden wedding anniversary at which a large host of friends gathered to wish them God's blessing. In 1948, John Erickson moved to Stromsburg and became a resident member of the Stromsburg Covenant Home, where he remained until his passing on December 22, 1958. He was 91 years, 5 months, and 3 days of age. John Erickson joined the Wakefield Covenant Church in 1888. He was a member longer than anyone in the history of the church so far. He was predeceased by three sisters and a brother, his loving wife and son David. He leaves besides his sons and daughters and their families, 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
