Sloan of the First Christian church officiating. "Burial will be in the Pine Creek cemetery. "Wookey was born in Missouri April 19, 1866, and came to Chico January 15, 1889. His aunt, Mrs. Eliza Wookey, operated a ranch 12 miles north of Chico and there he made his home. He worked on ranches in the neighborhood for six years. "On February 28, 1894, he was united in marriage with Margaret DeMoss. Following the marriage Kookey [sic] farmed the Fox ranch near Cana and was manager of the property until Presley Fox died. The old ranch was left as an estate to Mr. and Mrs. Wookey and a son of Fox, and Wookey continued to manage the farm for a number of years. He bought a 240 acre ranch in the same vicinity in 1902 and specialized in raising pure bred Poland China hogs. "Wookey held the distinction of being one of the first to plant an almond orchard in this locality. He manifested considerable interest in politics and voted the Democratic ticket. Twice married, his first wife died some years ago, and his second wife passed away about three years ago. "Wookey who moved to Paradise ten years ago to reside, is survived by a son, George Dewey Wookey of Chico; three daughters, Mrs. Linn Miller of Clear Lake; Mrs. William M. Applegard [sic, Abildgaard] of Ohio and Mrs. Carrie Gage [sic, Sage] of San Diego; and a niece, Mrs. Frank Cook of Paradise."
