Gravesen, a resident of this community for 40 years, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the Kenmare Deaconess Hospital. He had been in ill health the past three months. Mr. Gravesen was born March 27, 1885, at Hillerslev, Denmark. He came to the United States 56 years ago, first settling at Arlington, S. Dak. When he came to Kenmare he engaged in farming one mile north of Kenmare, which is presently operated by a son, Marvin. The family moved into Kenmare to reside in 1948. His marriage to Martha Sogaard took place October 30, 1920, in Kenmare. She passed away April 10, 1949. Mr. Gravesen was married April 19, 1955, in Kenmare to Mrs. Jennie Hansen. Surviving are: Mrs. Gravesen, three sons, Marvin, Floyd, LeRoy, all of Kenmare; three daughters, Mrs. Jimmie McDonald (Marion) Findlay, Ohio; Mrs. Dale Byrd (Carol), Kenmare; Mrs. Gary Nelson, (Shirley), San Bernardino, Calif.; two sisters in Denmark; sixteen grandchildren. A brother, Jens, preceded him in death in Denmark. Mr. Gravesen was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church. He had served the church as a member of the board, and also a member of the Kenmare township board. Funeral Services were held Monday, February 13, 2 o'clock, at the Nazareth Lutheran Church. Rev. Frank Maresh officiated, Mrs. J.V. McBride and Laurits Jorgensen were vocalists and Mrs. T.J. Vaaler, organist. Serving as honorary pall bearers were Otto Nielsen, E. Wm. Jensen, Viggo Sorensen, J.B. Schou, Fred Nielsen, Cleve Hanson, Virgil Karmgard and W. S. Jensen. Active bearers were G.R. Dolan, Walter Nelson, W. Fennell, Nels U. Nelson, L. Kuglin, Walter Thompson. Interment was in the Lakeview Cemetery with Ringen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Here from a distance to attend the last rites were Mr. and Mrs. Gary Nelson, San Bernardino, Calif; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Jensen and daughters, Coos Bay, Ore.; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fennell, Minot.
