Cottril died at his home northwest of Skidmore Monday evening after several days illness, aged 62 years, 6 months and 7 days. He leaves a widow, one daughter, Mrs. Wm. Taylor, and two sons, Charles and Roy, together with a host of friends to mourn his departure. Funeral services were held at the family residence at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning conducted by N. The burial services were conducted by the Masonic fraternity of which he was a faithful member." --------------------------------------- From the April 11, 1907 Skidmore New Era, page 1, column 1: "Andrew M. Cottril was born in West Virginia September 16th, 1845. At the age of thirteen years he moved with his parents to Hocking county, Ohio, where he lived until he was twenty-four years of age. He then went to Stark county, Ill. After remaining there one year he married Miss Lottie A. Davis, September 1st, 1870. They immediately started for Missouri, and they lived in Atchison county until 1874, when they moved to a farm six and one-half miles north west of Skidmore where they lived until the spring of 1891, when they moved to the farm on which he died, April 1st, 1907, aged 61 years, six months and 16 days, being sick two weeks with blood poisoning. He joined the Christian church in August 1894. He was a loving husband, a kind and affectionate father, a devoted Christian, a true Mason and a noble man and citizen. By his death he leaves a widow, three children, two sons and one daughter, Charles Ira and Roy E. Cottril and Mrs. Mattie A. Taylor, and seven grand-children, all of whom were present. He also leaves his mother, three brothers and four sisters, none of whom were present, besides a host of friends. In his death his family has sustained an irreparable loss, the church one of its loved members, the lodge a true and trusted brother and the community an honored and respected citizen. But their loss here is his eternal gain yonder "where the sun forever shines" as he said to his daughter a short time before his death. Then let the example of this noble character be an incentive to us all to imitate the good we see in this well spent life. - N. R. Davis" From the August 10, 1900 Skidmore Standard, page 5, column 3: "Mr. A. M. Cottril returned last Friday afternoon from his visit to Ohio relatives. He had a splendid time while there and could have enjoyed a longer visit had his farming interests here not claimed his presence. He feels much benefited by the trip, since he saw many people whom he used to know in his early days, and others whom he did not know, but claimed to know him. He found his mother enjoying splendid health and lightly marked by the ravages of time. Mr. Cottril says she will be 78 years old next December and looks equal to rounding out twenty more winters and summers. Her grandchildren number 59 and the great-grandchildren 16. She reared a family of 12 children to manhood and womanhood, ten of whom are still living."
