Johnson Rites Tuesday Services From Scandia; Dies Saturday By Vermillion River Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Wass Chapel and at the Scandia Lutheran church for Andrew O. N. Johnson, 75, who passed away last Saturday morning. Officiating were Harold Berg and Rev. V. F. Bjerke. Soloist was Mrs. M. F. Coddington while a trio composed of Mrs. Vandal Oakland, Joyce Sunde, and Mar Jean Hall also sang. Mrs. James Oakland was the accompanist. Mrs. Harry Overgaard and Mrs. Max Engman were in charge of floral arrangements while Mrs. Conrad Knudson was in charge of memorials. Honorary pallbearers were Dan Collins, Matt Alexander, Peter Erickson, Charles Lykholm, S. Victor Peterson, and Charles Johnson. Active bearers were Eddie Johnson, Arnold Lyckholm, Ben Haverberg, Clarence Christensen, Emil Norman, and Clarence Peterson. Burial was in the Riverview Cemetery. Mr. Johnson's body was discovered in the Vermillion river by members of the fire department who had been called to the Johnson home about 10:30 last Saturday morning when he could not be located. He had left the house about 7 o'clock in the morning falling into a hole along the river bank behind his home. Struggling to the utmost to free himself he no doubt suffered a heart attack, falling into the shallow water close to the river bank. Obituary: Andres O. Johnson was born on May 16, 1876, at Dalesburg, Clay county, Dakota Territory, and passed away at the age of 75 years, one month and seven days. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and was confirmed by Pastor C. O. Swenson on August 16, 1891, at the Dalesburg Lutheran church. For many years he was a member of that church. On Feb. 26, 1950, he joined the Scandia Lutheran church of which he was a member at the time of his death. Mr. Johnson spent his youthful days in the Dalesburg community being engaged in farming and on May 16, 1903, was united in marriage to Anna Louise Holmquist of the Komstad vicinity. They were engaged in farming until 1915 when they retired and moved to Centerville where they lived with the exception of two winters spent in California. During his sojourn here he was elected to the city council and served on that board for eight years. He as also elected to the board of directors of the Bank of Centerville in the year of 1927 and served until resigning in April 1951. Mr. John was preceded in death by his mother and father and three sisters and one brother. His mother, Nellie (Andersdatter) Birkley Nydahl who was born at Sonfjord, Norway, and passed away in Clay county on April 19, 1908, and his father, Ole Johnson Nydahl, were born at the same district in Norway and he passed away on the old farmstead in Clay county in 1918. His sister Annie passed away in October 1909 and his sister Inga (Mrs. Jonas Ledene) passed away June 14. 1919. His sister Jennie (Mrs. Peter Dahlin) passed away June 2, 1946, and his only brother John passed away January 4, 1949. Surviving Mr. Johnson are his wife Anna and one son, Elmore, and three grandsons, Danny, Dick and Don; also three nieces, Adeline Ledene of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Bernice Bristow of Mission, South Dakota; and Mrs. Violet Christensen of the Dalesburg community.
