Description	:	Andrew Starnes was probably the son of Jacob Starns (1775-1848) and Esther Wentz (c. 1780-1853). He owned the land on which this cemetery is located, and deeded it to trustees "for the purpose of a public grave yard or burying ground" in 1882. There are several graves earlier than that date, and I suspect this might originally have been a Starns family burying ground, though if Andrew's parents and brother are buried here, their graves are unmarked or the stones are lost. The Starns family, including Andrew, were originally members of the Morning Star Lutheran Church. Andrew married Eliza Hemby (1823-1889, daughter of John Hemby and his wife Elizabeth Ritch) at Morning Star on August 11, 1840. The inscription on his stone reads "Homeward To Realms Of The Pure." The children of Andrew and Eliza were: Robert Starnes (c. 1841-1862, CSA soldier, killed in the War), Harriet Elizabeth Starnes (1842-1939), Mary Starnes (c.1844-aft. 1880, m. William J. Hooks), Esther M. Starnes (1846-1927), Dorcas Drusilla Starnes (1848-bef. 1850), Jacob Thomas Starnes (1849-1920, m. M. Harriet Lemmonds), Louisa Letitia Starnes (1853-1906, m. Rev. Benjamin Franklin Fincher), Margaret Ann Starnes (1855-1922, m. James Monroe Tomberlin), Edith R. "Eady" Starnes (c. 1857/8-before 1900, m. Robert Abner "Abe" McRorie), Joanna Jane Starnes (c.1860-1901, m. Davis M. Gordon, 2nd. David Thompson), Andrew F. Starnes (c.1862-1944), Martha Emma Starnes (c.1864/6-?, m. John A. Haywood, 2nd. Abe McRorie), Elizabeth B. "Bettie" Starnes (1866-1907, m. N. C. Burns). Andrew may have been married before he married Eliza Hemby, and Ellison Starnes (c. 1835-1864) may have been his son.
