Hunter, the well-known Boone man whose death was announced in our last issue, was held on Friday afternoon, July 9th, at 2:00 o'clock from his late residence at 703 West Sixth Street, and from the Marion street M.E. church at 2:30 o'clock. Hunter, the well-known Boone man whose death was announced in our last issue, was held on Friday afternoon, July 9th, at 2:00 o'clock from his late residence at 703 West Sixth Street, and from the Marion street M.E. church at 2:30 o'clock. The services were conducted by the Rev. Ostrander of Des Moines, Ia., taking for his text Rev. 21:4, assisted by the Rev. R. Burton Sheppard, pastor of the Marion Street M.E. church. The music was furnished by a quartette, led by Mrs. Lucy McPherson. The hymns sung at the home were composed by his cousin, the Rev. William Hunter, now deceased, which were "The Great Physician" and "I'm Going Home, " and those at the church "Abide With Me, " "Rock of Ages" and "Jesus Savior, Pilot Me, " all favorite selections of the deceased. The pallbearers were Messrs. F.H. Johnson, F.D. Wheeler, S. Koppenhaver, John Moore, August Swanson and Webb Patterson. Many beautiful flowers were banked about the casket given by friends in and out of the city. The remains were laid to rest in Linwood cemetery. Ninety five vehicles were in line in the funeral procession, making it one of the largest ever held in this city, and showing the esteem in which he was held. He is survived by a wife, an aged father and mother, James and Angeline Hunter and the following sisters: Mrs. Susie A. Herrman, Mrs. Mary A. Caldwell, Fannie Hunter of Boone, Ia., Abbie L. Hunter of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Jessie M. McGee of Bienville, La., Mrs. Ellen J. Fairley of Chautauqua, Kans., all being present at his death bed except Mrs. McGee and Mrs. Farley, who arrived in time for the services. The out-of-town relatives who were present for the funeral were Mrs. Andrew Hunter of Iowa City, Iowa, John Sittler, Fred Smith, Mona Smith of Chersea, Ia. and Mrs. Mamie McCarthy of Ames, Iowa. Andrew Willie Hunter was born in Tama County, Iowa, March 19, 1859, and passed away at his home in Boone, Iowa, July 7, 1915 at 7:30 a.m., aged 56 years, 3 months and 18 days. He was married to Miss Lydia Emily Roushey at Marengo, Iowa, April 11, 1877. To this union two children were born, both dying in infancy. He had always been a strong rugged man until about six months ago when a general break down came, but continued his work until a week before his death. On June 29th he decided to go to the Iowa Sanitarium at Nevada, Iowa, for treatment, owing to his rapid failing. He was brought home Friday of the same week. Soon complications set in and he failed until the end came. Just before his death he was asked if he had made everything right with his divine Savior and he answered by pressing the hands of those about him. This proved a great consolation to his bereaved relatives. A remarkable thing in the Hunter family is the fact that this was the first death in the family for forty five years. Mr. Hunter's death caused a great shock to his many friends throughout the community. Formerly engaged in contracting work and for some time street commissioner he was much in the public eye and was much thought of. He was a man of sterling character and of good qualities and was possessed of many close friends. In the death of Mr. Hunter a man of usefulness to the community has passed and to the widow and other relatives the sympathy of many is extended. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
