Coppock Dies Thursday, Heart Disease Funeral Services Will Be Held Sunday Afternoon A. E. Coppock, 76, who came to Carroll County nearly sixty years ago, died suddenly of heart disease at his home on North Adams Street at 7:15 Thursday evening. Mr. Coppock had not felt well of late and had been under the care of a physician, who had advised him to rest quietly at home. He had been in bed for the last two weeks, but feeling better Thursday evening, he went into his yard for a short time and then came back into the house to lie down on the davenport, he passed away a few minutes later. The body is at the Huffman Funeral Home, where friends may call to view it. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, with the Rev. W. F. Clayburg, minister of the Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Coon Rapids Cemetery. Mr. Coppock was born In Dark County, Ohio, Nov. 5, 1862, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Coppock. When he was twelve years old, the family traveled by train from Ohio to Missouri, and made the remainder of the trip, a distance of 319 miles, by wagons to a farm on the "Brushy" In Guthrie County. For the next two years, Mr. Coppock herded cattle on the open prairies, unfenced in every direction. There was not a house between the Coppock home and the little store, which stood where the town of Viola Is now located. There were only three houses between Viola and the town of Hamlin. In 1871, Mr. Coppock came from Guthrie County to Union Township, Carroll County. He was married Sept. 21, 1887, to Miss Jennie Piper, a native of Pennsylvania. The ceremony took place at the home of the bride's parents in Pleasant Valley Township, with the Rev. Mr. Crittenden, minister of the Presbyterian Church at Coon Rapids, officiating. TO CARROLL IN 1922 Mr. and Mrs. Coppock first made their home on their farm two and one-half miles northeast of Coon Rapids. After residing there for twelve years, they sold the place and moved to a farm near Bayard, where they lived for four years. The next four years were spent at Odebolt, from which place they moved back to Carroll county to live in the Carrollton community until they located in Carroll in 1922. September 21, 1937, Mr. and Mr. Coppeck celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. Coppock was a member of the United Brethren Church. Surviving with his wife are five children; Claude Coppock, Carroll; Mrs. Jess Hupp (Vera), Scranton; Mrs. Oscar Jubell (Alta), Muskegon, Mich.; Mrs. Fred Snelling (Nellie), Ft Collins, Colo.; and Arthur Coppock, Cherokee; twenty-one grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Claude Coppock, Storm Lake; and four sisters; Mrs. Fred Weed, Wall Lake; Mrs. Abe Sexton of Missouri; Mrs. Albert Parr of California; and Mrs. Steve Crittendon of Clarence, la. He was preceded in death by one son, Alvy Coppock.- Carroll Times Herald
