Description	:	Anise M. Askins, long time Palouse homemaker, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Pullman Regional Hospital. She was 87. Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 28th at 11:00 am at the Palouse Federated Church. Vault interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. She was born June 13, 1923 in a farm house near Browning, Missouri to Lee B. and Agnes (Stanforth) Brantner. She was born June 13, 1923 in a farm house near Browning, Missouri to Lee B. and Agnes (Stanforth) Brantner. She attended school at a one room schoolhouse about a mile from home and would often go there by horse drawn sled in the winter. Their home was always full of company and activity. Memories of fresh baked bread, home grown watermelon and lots and lots of home-made ice cream were prevalent. During the difficult times of the Depression her father made the decision to sell their farm and move west. He had visited the Palouse country earlier and so he sold his things, bought a new ford truck to which he built a make-shift camper/house on the back and the family moved to Clarkston, Washington and finally settled in Palouse, Washington in 1935. Anise went to school in Palouse and then when her dad was working in the orchards around Omak, she would attend school there. She married Weldon Askins of Palouse February 2, 1940 in Superior, Montana. They farmed at the base of Kamiak Butte their entire lives. Anise kept busy as a homemaker and mother, raising their three children. She also had many duties on the farm including raising a large garden, lots of chickens, cooking for harvest crews, driving harvest truck and whatever tasks were at hand. She was an excellent cook and was well known for her home baked rolls and pumpkin pies. She was a long time member of the Grange, the Palouse Senior Citizens, and the Neighbors Aid. Anise was active in the Palouse Christian Church and later in the Palouse Federated Church for many years. She enjoyed camping with family, she loved kids and thoroughly enjoyed following her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their activities. Weldon died in 1979 and Anise continued living at the farm until moving into Palouse in 1988. She and long time companion Harold Conner enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. They could often be seen at Arby's in Moscow or at the Top Notch in Colfax; two of their favorite places to visit. Anise is survived by her three children; Jerry & Connie Askins and Jim and Jeanette Askins of Palouse and Connie and Gary Jennings of Kahlotus, WA; 12 grandchildren, Nikki, Tina, Pam, Deanna, Aquella, John, Ryan, Aaron, Kadie, Nate, Breeann and Shanaya; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Ramah Archer of Garfield. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by siblings Alva, Winnie, Bernie, Olive, and Evelyn and her companion Harold.
