Read More	Young Girl Victim of Malignant Scarlet Fever Anita Gwendolin Hays was born on a farm near Edgar, Neb., February 25, 1905 and was called to the higher life at the parental home in Edgar, Sunday night, May 7, 1922 at the age of 17 years, 2 months and 12 days. Coming to Edgar with her parents in her childhood, most of her school life was spent in the local public schools. She was a junior in the high school at the time of her departure. Miss Anita was of an esthetic nature, the beautiful appealing most strongly to her. Some of her leisure was spent in developing this element in her soul, as several paintings in the home testify. On March 22, 1918, having made the great decision of her life in accepting Christ as her Savior and Friend, she publicly confessed him and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in Edgar. She was no idler in the Kingdom but for several years she was a teacher in the primary department of the Sunday school of which department her mother is superintendent. Her services was not half-hearted, perfunctory, but she delighted in it and threw her whole being into the work. Punctuality, faithfulness and efficiency characterized her endeavors. She will be greatly missed in home, school and church circles. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev William Boyers. The home being under quarantine, a short service was held on the lawn and the longer service at the cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs. W. A. Hart, J. W. Hart, H. D. Skinner and W. H. Strawser. The hymns, "Lead Me Gently Home" and "Saved by Grace," were sung by a quartet from the choir of which Miss Anita was a member. Rev Boyers' remarks were founded on the words, "She hath done what she could" and "My privileges are cut off." A goodly number of friends were present but owing to the virulency of the disease which took this young life, it was not deemed prudent for her classmates to attend. An abundance of beautiful flowers were sent to token of deep sympathy with the bereaved ones and of esteem for the loved one gone. Among the donors were the faculty of the high school, the juniors, the Methodist choir, Sunday school and Ladies' Aid. There are left to mourn her departure her parents, one sister, her grandfather and other relatives and friends.
