She grew up in Atkinson through grade school when the family moved to Valley where she graduated from Valley High School in 1965. As a young girl, Gayle was cheerleader, enjoyed tennis, piano and drama club. Gayle married Ben Stenglein on May 21, 1966 in Omaha, Nebraska and to this union three daughters were born: Amy, Ann and Kate. Gayle and Ben raised their family in Valley, Colorado Springs, Colorado, back to Valley then Waterloo. Gayle worked for a couple of years at Union Pacific Railroad before becoming a full-time homemaker and stay at home mom. She continued to enjoy tennis, golf, reading, playing cards with her granddaughter Amy and reading for Radio Talking Book. She remained strong in her Catholic faith and loved to attend mass when she was able. She was a member of St. Gerald's Catholic Church in Ralston. Her family remembers her as a patient and kind woman who loved her family and treasured the times they all could gather. Gayle passed away peacefully at her home in Omaha on April 30, 2009 at the age of 62 years, 5 months and 29 days. She was preceded in death by her daughter Amy and her mother Rose Ann Standage. Gayle is survived by her daughters Ann Stenglein of Waterloo, Nebraska and Kate Stenglein of LaVista, Nebraska; granddaughter Amy; father Everette Standage of Shenandoah, Iowa; sister Charlene Wilcox of Shenandoah, Iowa; brother Duane "Butch" Standage of Hesperia, California; many nieces, nephew and cousins. © Omaha World-Herald; Omaha, Nebraska; Saturday, May 2, 2009; of News Section STENGLEIN--Anita "Gayle", Age 62, Omaha, NE.
