Orangeville Sun, August 11, 1892, page 3 - She Remembered Waterloo On Monday evening last death removed one of the oldest residents of this section of the country, in the person of Mrs. Ann Jackson, at the advanced age of 94 years. For some time past deceased has resided with her daughter, Mrs. Lester of York street, and her death, although not unexpected, caused a great deal of sorrow. Born in the 18th century she had almost completed the 19th before her wonderful strength gave way to nature's call. She held the distinction of being a subject of our British Sovereigns, George III, George IV, William IV and Victoria, and it was her delight to tell of the scenes attending the return of the British army from the memorable battle of Waterloo. Her account of the hardships endured by the early settlers of this country were most interesting and would scarcely be credited by the boys and girls of today. What immense changes have taken place in those years only those who have experienced them can tell. During her later years her eyesight failed and to those who called to see her she would say that she was "just waiting until the Lord would call." Deceased leaves a family of two sons and five daughters. They are: Mrs. Lester and Mrs. Mitchell of this town; Mrs. Harrop, Chesterville; Mrs. Halliday, Brant township; Mrs. Donaugh, near Mt. Forest; James of Wallace township, and Robert of Mono. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon to St. Mark's church, where religious services were conducted by Rev. A. Henderson, after which the remains were interred in St. John's church burying ground Mono. Rev. A Henderson will preach the funeral sermon of the late Mrs. Jackson in St. Mark's church on Sunday evening next.
