Ann was born February 26, 1932, in Wenatchee to George and Myra (Lillengreen) Gruenberg. She attended Wenatchee schools and graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1950. She was involved in many school activities, a candidate for the Apple Blossom Royalty and selected Junior Prom Queen. Ann was active in her Central Christian Church (Cornerstone Christian now) youth group. One of the highlights of her young life was the Lake Chelan family cabin, and later the joy of watching her sons and grandchildren grow up with wonderful summers at the Lake, was a gift she cherished. Ann attended the University of Puget Sound, Tacoma for her freshman year. On June 10, 1951, Ann married Gerald (Jerry) Koch of Wenatchee. They had an extended honeymoon that summer, spent on Sugarloaf Lookout in the Entiat district where Jerry had summer jobs working for the U.S. Forest Service -- their first "home with a view". Then in the fall, they were off to Seattle for Jerry to attend the University of Washington. Ann's first job to help with school expenses was professional modeling for the Kathleen Peck Modeling Agency. The day before graduation, in 1953, their first child, Ken arrived. About a year later, son Russ joined the family, and next arrived son Tom to complete the family. Through working with the YMCA, Ann took an interest in helping middle and high school aged girls with classes in etiquette, poise and clothing; later she worked at People's Department Store where she coached the "Teen Debs" selected annually by the store. Keeping physically fit was on Ann's daily schedule with walking and swimming her favorites. She was a very creative cook and could always make something wonderful out of what appeared to be nothing. Her friends would say that her kindness and quick wit made it a delight to be with her. Ann's greatest joy was her relationship with Jesus Christ and her connection with the Free Methodist Church, both in Wenatchee and East Wenatchee. She was always reading and learning. She enjoyed her volunteer time at these churches in a variety of ways such as calling on newcomers, doing clerical work, and providing help in the kitchen for special events. She had put these activities on hold for several years to spend time looking after her mother who recently died at age 100. Ann is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jerry Koch; her sons, Ken (Lucy) of San Diego, Russ of Lake Sammamish, and Tom (Tami) of Wenatchee; four grandchildren, Chris and Kelsey of Lake Sammamish, Riley and Alex of Wenatchee; sister, Arden (Bert) Buchanan; and sister-in-law, Linda (Terry) West of Wenatchee; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Myra Gruenberg of Wenatchee. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2006, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, June 1, 2006, from 9:00 a.m. to Noon at Betts Memorial Chapel. A Private Family Burial will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Wenatchee City Cemetery, and a Memorial Service will be held at The Wenatchee Free Methodist Church, 1601 Fifth Street, Wenatchee on Friday, June 2, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the church of your choice. Arrangements are by Betts Funeral Service, Wenatchee.
