Description	:	Ann Virgene (Leiding) Fuerst, 84 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2019 at Holdrege Memorial Homes. Ann was born in Stamford, on February 25, 1935, the only child born to Donald and Mabel (Corbin) Leiding. Following graduation from Stamford High School, she attended Lincoln School of Commerce, Midland Lutheran College, and graduated from Kearney State College with a degree in education. Read More	Ann Virgene (Leiding) Fuerst, 84 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2019 at Holdrege Memorial Homes. Ann was born in Stamford, on February 25, 1935, the only child born to Donald and Mabel (Corbin) Leiding. Following graduation from Stamford High School, she attended Lincoln School of Commerce, Midland Lutheran College, and graduated from Kearney State College with a degree in education. She taught kindergarten in Genoa, Nebraska for three years and second grade at Roosevelt and Washington Elementary Schools in Holdrege for 38 years. She received the Ken Kohlscheen “Teachers’ Choice Award” in 1991, and retired in 2000. Ann was a member of the Holdrege Education Association, NSEA, and recently received a 50-year membership award from Delta Kappa Gamma, where she served as President and Corresponding Secretary of the Phi Chapter. She was a lifelong ELCA Lutheran, and was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford. As an active member of Spirit of Grace, she served as a Stephen Minister and participated in weekly Bible studies. Ann was an avid reader, bridge player, and traveler. She was a long-time book and bridge club member, and traveled to all 50 states and over 20 countries. She especially enjoyed vacationing and spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Jodi Haniszewski. She leaves to celebrate her life: her daughter, Jill Bates and her husband, Bill of Neligh, Nebraska; son-in-law, Marty Haniszewski of Lincoln, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Sarah Brownell and her husband, Joe; Jordan Bates and his wife, Megan; Reid Haniszewski; and Laura Haniszewski; one great-granddaughter, Carter Bates; and a host of close relatives, friends, and neighbors.
