Ann had always lived in Carroll, here she was born Feb 18, 1928, daughter of Albert C and Fay (Duncan) Wegner. She was the last baby baptized in the old Presbyterian Church and was the youngest subscriber to the present church when it was built in 1928. She was baptized by the Rev W.H. Parker now of Glidden and a former pastor of the local church. On Easter Sunday a year ago, Ann and her grandmother, Mrs Henry F Wegner, joined the Presbyterian Church. Ann had always been a member of the Sunday School. If she had been able to continue with her school work, Ann would have been in the 8th grade this year. She was an honor student. Besides her parents, Ann leaves her grandmother, Mrs Henry F Wegner of Carroll and the following uncles and aunts: Edward P. Wegner, Council Bluffs; George Wegner, Chicago; Frank Wegner and Mrs. John Stammeyer, Carroll; Mrs. A.A. Carpenter, Los Angeles; Mrs. J.W. Doe, Berkley, Calif., Mrs. F.C. Huebner, Des Moines; Mrs. B.B. Kemp, New Castle, Ind; Ruth Ann Duncan, Mt. Pleasant; and Floyd C. Duncan, Iowa City. Ann was preceded in death by a sister, Jane who died at birth on Nov. 11, 1924. In May 1940, Ann had been taken to Iowa City, where a diagnosis revealed that she had anemia, but not of a serious nature. In January 1941, her parents learned that Ann had leukemia, and upon advice of local physicians, they took her to the Mayo Clinic at Rochester, MN. In June 1941 Mrs. Wegner and Ann went to Berkeley, Calif., where Ann was given a special treatment. They remained there for three months, with Ann seemingly showing marked improvement. However, after an attack of flu last December, Ann's condition became much worse. Word came from her physician in Berkeley that she had only one chance in a hundred for recovery, but wishing to take that chance, Mrs. Wegner and Ann left for Berkeley on March 5. Ann failed to respond to treatment, and on March 29 Mrs. Wegner and she came back to their home here. She had been unable to leave her bed since that time.
