Anna Adelheid Brockshus (nee Ahrens) was born in Leeste, province of Hanover, Germnany on the ninth day of September, 1860. In early infancy she was received in the kingdom of God's grace by holy baptism. At the age of 9 years, she together with her father and two older brothers, left the land of her birth and came to America, her mother having departed this life when the deceased was but 3 years old. Upon their arrival in this country the family located near Homestead, Iowa county, Iowa. At this place the now departed renewed her baptismal vow on the day of her confirmation and also, years later on the 11th day February, 1886, entered the holy bonds of matrimony with John Brockshus of Homestead. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Brockshus located on a farm in Iowa county. A year later, on the 7th day of April, 1887, they moved to Osceola county, settling on a farm in the southeastern part of Harrison township. This was their home for the next twelve years, after which, in 1899, they moved to their home, the Brockshus place, in northwest Harrison, where the departed resided for forty six years. Since January, 1945, she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Herman Stamp of May City. The Brockshus union, which was broken by the death of the husband on the 15th day of February, 1901, was blessed with six children, two of whom preceeded their mother in death, a son dying in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. henry Mohr, departing this life on June 3, 1939. The deceased was a charter member of the May City Lutheran Church, founded nearly sixty years ago, and has since they day of its organization been one of its faithful and most highly esteemed members. With her departure the congregation lost not only one of its oldest, also the only remaining charter member of the organization. She took an active interest in the work of her church an synod and at all times gave both her moral and financial support. Although her husband was taken from her early in life and the Lord suffered her to taste the sorrows of widowhood for a long number of years, she was visibly blessed in many ways. In addition to being blessed with a goodly portion of worldly goods, she enjoyed exceptionally good health during her entire life of 87 years. Among the greatest blessings bestowed upon her was an extraordinarily keen mind throught her entire life even until the very time of her death, a special gift bestowed upon comparatively few people. She had acquired a treasure which she prized very highly, a vast knowledge of hymns committed to memory in childhood and youth, which meant much to her during her entire life, even to the very hour of death. Saturday morning, October 25, she had the misfortune of falling while visiting at the home of her son, Henry, and family, the fall resulting in a fracture of her hip. She was taken to Sioux City, where a surgical operation was performed the first days of last week. Although this operation was apparently successful and although it seemed as though she would recover, it was to be otherwise. On Thursday, October 30, at about 8:30 o'clock, she quietly and peacefully fell asleep, thus departing this life at the ripe age of 87 years, 1 month and 2 days. She leaves to mourn her departure one daughter, Mrs. Herman (Hannah) Stamp, thre sons, Henry, Louis and Otto, all of May City, sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
