Description	:	Annie's family was from Bretterdorf in what is now southeastern Slovenia. Her father, Georg Sterbenz, came to the U.S. in 1874; Annie, her mother and two of her sisters traveled from Hamburg to New York aboard the Rhaetia, 27 Aug 1884. They resided in "Browns," a German-speaking community in Clinton County. On 09 Apr 1888, Annie was married there to Joseph Herwath, son of Johan Horvat and Meta Mulik. Joseph was born in Otovec, Slovenia in 1853, he came to the US in 1880. Joseph's brother John Herwath and sister Catharina Barbara (Herwath) Skoff also settled in Browns.
