Description	:	Three children of Mr. and Mrs. John Hamstra, residing near Alcester, were burned to death in a fire which followed an automobile accident, seven miles south of Allendorf, in Osceola county, between 10 and 11 o'clock Sunday morning. Read More	Three children of Mr. and Mrs. John Hamstra, residing near Alcester, were burned to death in a fire which followed an automobile accident, seven miles south of Allendorf, in Osceola county, between 10 and 11 o'clock Sunday morning. The children were Anna, 14 years old; Dinah, 5 years old, and Arthur, 11 months old. The accident occurred when a tire on the Hamstra car blew out and the machine was hurled into the ditch at the side of the road. When the car struck the ditch, the gasoline tank became ignited and in a few seconds the entire car was in flames. The lives of the three children, who were imprisoned in the car, were snuffed out while the parents, in a dazed condition as a result of the accident, stood by helpless to aid them. The bodies of all three children were burned beyond recognition. Soon after the accident the parents were taken by a passing motorist to a physician in Sibley where they were treated for the numerous cuts and bruises they sustained. The family was enroute from their home near Alcester to the Tim Roefsen farm near Lake Park to get their son William, 16 years old, who had been visiting there over the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Hamstra were taken to the Roefsen farm after receiving medical attention and were then brought home to Alcester. The bodies of the three children were taken to Sibley where they were prepared for burial. The triple funeral, which was largely attended by relatives and friends of the family from Rock Valley, Sioux Center, Ireton and other places, was held from the Christian Reformed church in Hawarden at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning with the pastor, Rev. J.R. Rozendal, in charge. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery. The Hamstra family came to America from Holland about six years ago. They first lived in the Rock Valley community for two years but for the past four years have lived near Alcester. They plan to move onto a farm near Ireton in the spring. Since moving to the Alcester community they have been members of the congregation of the Hawarden Christian Reformed church. Anna, the eldest of the victims, was born in Holland May 6, 1916, and accompanied her parents to America. Dinah and Arthur were both born in this county. In addition to the parents and brother, William, the children are survived by another brother, Klaus, 12 years old, who did not accompany the other members of the family on the ill fated trip Sunday.
