Description	:	MRS. NICHOLAS W. KIEFER, 88, of Sigourney, passed away early Wednesday morning at the Keokuk County Hospital, where she had been a patient for the past six weeks. Mrs. Kiefer was born at Thornburg, May 23, 1875, the daughter of Wendell and Elizabeth Kelin Horras. She was the last survivor of a family of eight children. On April 14, 1896, she was married to N. KIEFER, 88, of Sigourney, passed away early Wednesday morning at the Keokuk County Hospital, where she had been a patient for the past six weeks. Mrs. Kiefer was born at Thornburg, May 23, 1875, the daughter of Wendell and Elizabeth Kelin Horras. She was the last survivor of a family of eight children. On April 14, 1896, she was married to N. W. Kiefer. They made their home on a farm south of Talleyrand. After living there three years, they moved to the farm east of Lancaster. They lived in the Lancaster community until 1946, when Mr. Kiefer retired and moved to their present home on South Main street. They became the parents of twin daughters, Frona, now Mrs. Alfred Sheetz of Oskaloosa and Leona, Mrs. L. A. Conrad of Sigourney. A son, Horace, passed away at the age of 14 years in 1914. Her husband died March 9, 1951. She is survived by her two daughters, eight grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. A rosary service was said in the Holm Funeral Home Thursday evening. Service was held at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption church in Sigourney, with the Rev. James Mackin, pastor in charge and burial was in Pleasant Grove cemetery, west of Sigourney. Pall bearers were Jack Marget, Bruce Doggett, Thomas Kelly, Carl Pence, Dave Paxton and Harry S. Helscher.
