Last Friday her condition became worse and an operation was resorted to, but human help was unavailing and the young wife and mother was called to the better land where suffering is unknown. Anna Heiken was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Heiken, longtime residents of this township. She was born in Castle Grove on May 23, 1884, and was therefore not quite 44 years of age. When quite young she united with the Lutheran church and remained a devoted member until her death. On Feb.15, 1910, she was married to Lorenz F. Balster, who with six children is left to mourn the loss of a good wife and mother. She is also survived by her aged mother, Mrs. J. H. Heiken, two brothers, I. A. Heiken of Castle Grove and G. J. Heiken of Wayne, and one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Burrack of Strawberry Point. The funeral was held from her late home at 1 o'clock on Thursday afternoon and from the Lutheran church at 2 o'clock. The services were in charge of Rev. Wolf, pastor of the church, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Prairie Hill cemetery in sight of the home where nearly all of her life had been spent. The grief stricken family has the heartfelt sympathy of a host of friends.
