Chestnut street at 1:30 Saturday morning, September 6. He had been in failing health for a month and had received medical attention at the hospital, but returned to his home a week ago. Funeral services were held at the Goettsch funeral home at 2 p.m. Monday with Rev. F. H. Kerhen, Lutheran pastor officiating. Burial was made in St. Peter and Paul's cemetery in Castle Grove township. Heiken was born in Castle Grove township, Feb. 26, 1873. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Heiken. His father preceded him in death. His mother (now 89 years old) resides In Castle Grove township. He was married to Mary Elben July 4, 1899, by the Rev, Hugo Lutz, at that time pastor of St. Peter and Paul's Lutheran church. The family home was made on farms in Castle Grove township and later in Wayne township. Mr. and Mrs. Heiken had lived in Monticello during the past 12 years. In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Henry Husman (Bernice) and Mrs. L. R. Hoag (Helen) of Monticello, one son, Henry, Scotch Grove, and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, I. A. Heiken, Monticello, and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Burrack of Strawberry Point. A sister, Mrs. Lorenz Balster, died 14 years ago. Mr. Heiken was confirmed by Rev. C. Mardorf, formerly pastor of Zion Lutheran church in Wayne township. He had been a lifelong member of the Lutheran church. During his residence in Monticello he had been caretaker for the grounds of many people in the neighborhood in which he lived and was also janitor of the Congregational Church.
