Read More	Waterloo Gazette, Nebraska September 30, 1932 Mrs. Deena Bartels, pioneer resident of the Millard community, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Blumer, at Chalco, Monday, September 26. Mrs.Bartels was born at Hanover, Germany, November 19, 1847, and was 84 years,10 months and 7 days old at the time of her death. She came to America June 23, 1866, and lived at Ottawa, Illinois. Here she was married to Henry T. Bartels, on July 8, 1866. They made their home in LaSalle County, Illinois, for sixteen years and came to Nebraska on March 1, 1822, making their home on a farm 2 1/2 miles southeast of Millard. To them were born five children. Mr. Bartels died January 16, 1890 and the eldest son, Henry, died June 2, 1890, when 23 years of age. Mrs. Bartels remained on the farm for three years after her husband's death, and since then has made her home with her children. The last 10 months were spent at Chalco. She is survived by two sons, August and Frank of Millard andtwo daughters, Mrs. William Blumer of Chalco and Mrs. Henry Ruff of Gretna; onebrother, William Gebke of Arthur, ND. She is also survived by twenty-three grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Two sisters preceded her in death. During her many years' residence in the Millard community she made a large circle of friends. She was a member St. Paul's Lutheran church and a member of the Ladies Aid society and had always taken an active part in church affairs. Funeral services were held Thursday, September 29, at 1:30 at the Frank Bartels home in Millard, to St. Paul's Church at 2 o'clock. The Rev. A.C. Hoff officiated. Interment was in Sautter's cemetery at Papillion. Pall-bearers were all grandsons: Leon Ruff, Frank Bartels, Henry and Leonard Blumer, George and Erwin Bartels.
