Black, Passes Away CHARTER OAK, Jan. 31 – Mrs. Anna D. Black was born in Chicago, Cook county, Ill., on Dec. 18, 1872. Her parents, G. F. Fiene, and Margaret nee Fink, then being members of the First Lutheran Church of Chicago, she was in her infancy baptized by the Rev. H. Wunder. When but a child of about four years of age, she came with her parents to Crawford county which was then a new and very thinly settled country. She received her early education in the Hanover township Lutheran parochial school and was confirmed by the Rev. C. A. Bretscher, then pastor of the new so well known St. Paul’s Lutheran church, or commonly called the Hanover Township church, of which she was a member until 1894 when she removed with her parents to a farm a mile north of Charter Oak, transferring her membership to St. John’s Lutheran church of this place. In 1899, she was united in marriage by the Rev. A. Amstein, with M. M. Black, to whom she made a loving and devoted wife. Two sons, Paul and Philip were born to them, to whom she proved a loving Christian mother rearing them in the Lutheran faith. Since 1899, she lived with her husband and family in Charter Oak, Chicago, north of Charter and in Charter Oak again, where for a number of years Mr. Black has been employed in the Hanford cream station. Shortly before Christmas, she underwent a serious operation in the Sioux City Lutheran hospital, which proved very successful so that four weeks later she could go home entertaining the fondest hopes for a complete recover and a happy future in the circle of her family. Early in the morning of January 22, however, a serious change in her condition set in, developing into gastric hemorrhages which subsequently caused her death. Her end came to her on Friday morning, January 25, causing much surprise, sorrow and sympathy. Her funeral was held on Sunday afternoon from the St. John’s Lutheran church of Charter Oak, her pastor, Rev. A. Amstein speaking to a very large congregation in the German language while the Rev. Theo. Wolfram of Soldier township addressed the audience in the American tongue. Interment was made in the St. John’s cemetery. Six of her cousins, all of them sons of August Schultz of Schleswig, acted as pall bearers. Many and beautiful were the floral contributions betokening the love and esteem in which she was held. Her age at the time of her death was 45 years, 1 month and 7 days. She is mourned by her husband, M.M. Black, her two sons, Paul and Philip, her mother Mrs. M. Fiene, four brothers, three sisters and a host of relatives and friends.
