Hanken died at the John McDonald hospital, last Saturday afternoon, following an exploratory surgical operation performed several weeks previously, which revealed the fact that there could be no prospect for recovery. She had been an ailing sufferer for a long time previously. Mrs. Hanken's maiden name was Anna Tobiassen, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Tobiassen of Wayne Township. She was born October 30, 1874, and was therefore but few months more than 53 years old at the time of her death. This was at a time when life should have been the happiest in the companionship of a good husband and the devotion of three children, including a daughter at home, but all hopes were overthrown by an unconquered disease. Anna Tobiassen was married to John B. Hanken, November 21, 1893, by Rev. Von Sgtrohe, the then pastor of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church. The three children who came to bless the home, who with the husband survive the decedent are Henry Hanken of Clarence, Mrs. Floyd Love of Olin, and Martha residing in the parental home. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. John Poppe of Langworthy, and one brother, R. Tobiassen of this city, also by two half-sisters, Mrs. Andrew Kasper and Mrs. Fred Zimmerman both of this city. The funeral services were held with short private services at the family home in Monticello, at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday, March 20, followed by public services at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church in Wayne township at 2 o'clock, where the funeral address was delivered by the pastor, Rev. Paul Gutknecht. Burial was made in Oakwood cemetery, Monticello.
