She had been in poor health the past few months and had been confined to her home or in a hospital ever since a series of heart attacks several weeks age. She had been in poor health the past few months and had been confined to her home or in a hospital ever since a series of heart attacks several weeks age. Mrs. Jacobs held the distinction of being in business in Creighton longer than any other person, for a period of more than 50 years. Since the passing of her husband, Oliver Jacobs, in 1933, she continued to be active in the operation of the Jacobs Bakery and Restaurant and later in the bakery and grocery store, along with her daughter, Helen, and son, Ernest. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Methodist Church with the Rev. J.R. Rayborne officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Anna Hajek was born February 6, 1871 on a farm between Verdigre and Niobrara, one of five children of Mr. and Mrs. John Hajak, pioneer settlers in Knox county. In 1893, she came to Creighton, where she was employed by J.W. Buchholz, who operated a bakery and hotel. She was united in marriage to Oliver Jacobs, also an employee in the bakery, April 21, 1895 at the Brunswick Methodist Church with the Rev. I.A. Bear performing the ceremony. After their marriage, they became the owners of the hotel and bakery. The hotel, which later became a rooming house, and the bakery, where the present post office building is located, burned to the ground in 1906. In 1907, the present bakery and grocery store building was erected. Fromm 1915 to 1944 a restaurant was operated in connection with the bakery. Mr. Jacobs died February 3, 1900. Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs, all of whom live in Creighton, Ernest, Adolph and Helen. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Tichy of Niobrara and three grandchildren, Gordon, Ernest and Bobby Jacobs.
