The hour announcing the approach of last Sunday had not arrived till the sad news was known and brought its burden to scores of households in this community. Mrs. Kennedy had been ill for several months but all or nearly all hoped against hope even in the darkest hours that she might recover. The last messages at Saturday's sunset were favorable but they were quickly followed by less hopeful ones until at 11 that night, her many cares fell from her and she was at rest. In October last, she accompanied by her husband, went south in hopes that a change of climate would benefit her health, but she was compelled to return to her old home after two months spent in New Mexico, and permitted to spend the closing days of her life in the midst of her relatives and family. Anna Kennedy was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs Thomas Halligan, old and esteemed residents of this community. She was born December 29, 1885, on her father's farm in Willow township, Greene county, and moved with her parents to Bayard when seven years of age where she was reared to womanhood. February 15, 1911 she was united in marriage to Edward Kennedy, to this union one child was born, daughter Mary aged two years. Mrs. Kennedy resided with her husband upon their farm three miles northeast of Bayard until last fall, when they were compelled to abandon their home on account of her increasing ill health. She passed away at the home of her parents where she was taken after her return from the south. In June 1904 she was graduated with honors from the Bayard high school. Her friends were numbered by her acquaintances, she always gave the best to everyone. Quiet, modest, unassuming, courteous to all, and a friend true as steel, as a wife and mother, considerate and loving. Such was Anna Kennedy to those who knew her best. The kindly eyes are closed. She has gone from us and none can fill the place occupied in the hearts of her friends. She will be long remembered for what she was, she lived a good life; her race is run. May she rest in peace. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and daughter, her parents and one sister, Mrs. Thomas Moylan, of near Coon Rapids. To each and all is extended the sincere sympathy of the public generally, who feel that in this loss of a wife, daughter and sister the whole community has also sustained an irreparable loss. The funeral took place at St Patricks church in Bayard Monday a very sympathetic sermon. A large concourse of friends accompanied the remains to its last resting place in Willow cemetery. The floral offerings were beautiful and in profusion. Relatives who attended the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Wm Handey, Stuart; Mr. and Mrs. Warner and Mrs. John Coakley, Omaha; Patrick Halligan and daughter Mrs. McLaughlan, Lone Tree; and Miss Ida Kennedy, Des Moines; Mrs. Chas. Gallegher, Davenport; besides many friends from Coon Rapids and Scranton.
