The coroner’s verdict was that her death occurred several days earlier on Tuesday, October 26th, when she was last seen by neighbors. She had been cleaning house, she told Mrs. Clara Minten, whom she saw that day, and no doubt over exertion might have caused her sudden passing. Her body was found lying face down across the bed, as though she had endeavored to reach it before falling. Her only son, Earl Hein of Burbank, California was notified, also her sisters and twin brother, Frank Hein of Herman, Minnesota. Mr. and Mrs. Hein came to Alton at once to make funeral arrangements and received instructions by long distance from Earl Hein. She was born at Wrightstown, Wisconsin, on June 14, 1874 and at the time of her passing was 69 years, 4 months and 12 days of age. At the age of two years she came to Iowa with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hein, the family settling in Cherokee County and came to Sioux County in 1884, settling on a farm three miles east of Alton. For many years she has lived in Alton, with the exception of a year spent in California with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hein and her sisters there. She was quite ill last winter and spring and was a hospital patient for some weeks, but this fall appeared to be in better health these last many months. Surviving besides her son, Earl are three grandchildren: one brother, Frank Hein of Herman, Minnesota; four sisters; Theresa, Mrs. J.J. Ardolf of Los Angeles, California; Lenna, Mrs. T.F. Fisch, Genevieve, Mrs. Harry Sorgdrager, both of Berkeley, California; Katherine, Mrs. George Lohr of Settler, Alberta, Canada. Four sisters and one brother preceded her in death. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning Requiem Mass was held at St. Mary’s Church.
