Franz d. 27 Oct. 1891, Anna d. 28 Feb. 1884, buried in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Garnavillo. Franz d. 27 Oct. 1891, Anna d. 28 Feb. 1884, buried in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Garnavillo. Because of a threatened revolution in Germany early in the 19th Century, Franz Sr. and Anna, with seven of their children (two b. in Clayton County), left their land near Lundshut, Bavaria, and emigrated to America in the early 1850's. They purchased land in Clayton County in 1855, between Clayton Center and Garnavillo. Franz and Anna are believed to have had 10 ch., the first 8 being born at Unterrohrn, near Holzhirchen: 1) Anna b. April 1837 m. Michael Kindhammer, 6 ch., they are buried in LaCrosse, Wis. 2) Frank Auer II -- See his Article. 3) Kreszenz b. 9 April 1840, no other record on her. 4) Catherine b. 27 March 1842 m. 1865 to Louis Meyers, m. 1873 Nichalas Haas, m. Henry John Frank. Two children are known to have been born to the Haas marriage (one blind girl who played the piano beautifully). Buried at Aberdeen, South Dakota, where they had a hotel, but little else is known. 5) Magdalene b. 14 April 1844 m. Josephine Schwartz, m. John Spies. One daughter, Louisa Schwartz Kunitz Brink. Burial at LaCrosse, Wis., cemetery, where they resided and Magdalene willed quite a sum of money to charity. 6) Theresa b. 15 June 1846, d. 27 June 1941 m. Arno Schaeffers b. 28 March 1839 Westphalia, Germany, d. 26 Dec 1910. Six ch. Both are buried at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Monona. 7) Mary Elizabeth b. 24 June 1849, d. 28 May 1907 m. Louis Claus b. 1837 St. Louis, Mo., d. 14 June 1910. Burial place of Mary Claus is unknown. They had four children. 8) Caroline b. 11 Nov. 1851, m. Wm. Fr. Krauel b. 1851 in Prussia, Germany. Caroline d. 31 Oct. 1900 of Typhoid Fever, leaving nine children, and Mr. Krauel moved the family to South Dakota, then Minnesota where many descendants still live. 9) Joseph Auer, b. 5 Dec. 1855 near Garnavillo, d. 26 Feb. 1924, m. 1884 to Sarah Jane Fallon b. 12 Aug. 1856, d. 20 April 1930, buried St. Joseph's Cemetery, Garnavillo. Parents of six children. 10) Edward b. 22 Sept. 1858 near Garnavillo, d. 23 Dec. 1942, m. 1883 to Elizabeth Fallon b. 30 May 1859, d. 7 Nov. 1926. Then Ed m. 1927 to Elizabeth Koss Gleason b. about 1867, d. 10 July 1947. Edward had no children from either marriage. It is said that Ed and Lillian had invested quite a sum of money in stocks, which they lost during the stock market crash.
