She joined a sister, Gladys, and later welcomed brothers Johnny and Kenneth into their family. She spent her early years on the farm going to country school close by, walking even on very cold days. She enjoyed school and felt it a privilege to get an education. She also attended Freeman Academy and graduated after four years. In later years, she supported her alma mater and attended many concerts due to her love of music. She was also a lifelong member of Salem-Zion Mennonite Church where she accepted Jesus Christ as her savior and was baptized at a young age. She lived with her parents on the farm and when her mother suffered a stroke that left her bedridden, she was the primary care giver for four years. She later moved off the farm with her dad and brother Johnny and had the opportunity to work at the Dairy Queen waiting on customers. Then she was asked to work at the hospital as an aide, which she did for over 25 years. She was known for her kindness to patients and good, gentle care she gave. She made many acquaintances over the years. She enjoyed her nieces and nephews very much and remembered birthdays and Christmas’ with gifts for each one. She also enjoyed needlework and was a quilter for her church Salem-Zion as well as Freeman Academy. She enjoyed a garden and loved growing flowers – especially roses. Anna did a lot of traveling – usually group trips throughout the United States and also ventured into Europe buying souvenir spoons and glassware from each country she visited. She also enjoyed becoming a business woman purchasing a duplex where she lived, while renting the other apartment. She lived there for 25 years until the yard work and upkeep of the house became too much. In 2006, she moved to the Salem home apartments staying for two years before moving to the Salem Home as she needed care. She remained there for three years before making another move to Freeman regional health services in 2012, where she remained until her death. Anna passed away March 9th at the age of 98 years. She was preceded in death by her siblings: sister Gladys Waltner, brothers Johnny Kaufman, Kenneth Kaufman and a nephew Robert Kaufman. Those remaining to cherish her memory are her sisters-in-law Hilda Kaufman and Vel Kaufman, nephews Ivan Waltner, Lee Kaufman, Keith Kaufman, and nieces Patricia Fast and Carolyn Gillette.
