Description	:	Anna J. Soucek Skokan passed away at the Lundberg Memorial Hospital in Nebraska. She was born in Cile, Czechoslovakia, daughter of Frank and Catherine Somr, and in 1907 the entire family of ten came to the United States to the home of Steve Somr, a brother. Later they f armed west of Verdigre, Nebr. She was united in marriage to Ernest J Soucek in 1914, who died in 1930. In November, 1936, she married Alois F. Skokan, and in 1940 they moved to Niobrara. She lost her husband in February, 1946. She then worked for 12 years as a cook until arthritis made it impossible to be steadily employed. Sister Skokan joined our Lodge Dec 22, 1929, and was a member of t he Niobrara American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, Mary Paul, Bessie Cernousek, and a brother, Anton Somr. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. George (Evelyn) Skokan, Elsie E Soucek, both of Niobrara; Mrs G. Duane (Elaine) Ryan of Fremont; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brothers Joe R. Somr of Verdigre, Frank of Temple City, Calif.; Vac H. of Scottsbluff; a sister, Mrs. Leland (Julie) McGraw of Niobrara; 6 stepsons, Edward L. Skokan of Omaha, Emil of Langley, Wash, Louis of Verdigre, Dr. William of Fort Worth, Texas, Frank of Verdigre and Otto of Lakeland, Florida. W.B.F.A. Lodge Vysehrad No. 53 of Niobrara, Nebr. extends sincere sympathy to the bereaved family. Evelyn A. Skokan, Sec'y. An added comment would be that, for all of us grand kids, she was the only "grandmother" that we ever knew.
