Description	:	Evelyn was born in Verdigre, Nebraska on January 23, 1919, to Ernest and Anna (Somr) Soucek. She attended the Ruth country school near Verdigre and graduated from Verdigre High School in 1936. On May 15, 1938, she married George Skokan in Omaha, Nebraska. They began their married life in Verdigre, but also lived in Niobrara, Nebraska, and in Washington D.C. for a short time in 1941. Read More	Evelyn was born in Verdigre, Nebraska on January 23, 1919, to Ernest and Anna (Somr) Soucek. She attended the Ruth country school near Verdigre and graduated from Verdigre High School in 1936. On May 15, 1938, she married George Skokan in Omaha, Nebraska. They began their married life in Verdigre, but also lived in Niobrara, Nebraska, and in Washington D.C. for a short time in 1941. Evelyn enjoyed decorating cakes for weddings and events while her husband was alive. She was an active member in the VFW and the American Legion Auxiliary. Together Evelyn and George raised four children. She began work for the United States Postal Service as a clerk while her husband, George, was Postmaster. When George died suddenly, in 1965, Evelyn became Postmaster of the Niobrara post office by appointment in November 1966. She was active in the Postmaster organizations during her entire career. In 1982, Evelyn retired from the Postal Service and moved to Gallatin Valley near her daughter. She loved baking, trying new recipes, photography, travel, latch work, reading and doing word puzzles. She also enjoyed making bread in her West Bend bread machine, and often gave this gift to many friends and family members. She belonged to the Garden Club and was an active member in her church and community. Her parents, her husband, George, and her sister Elsie Soucek, preceded her in death. Evelyn is survived by her sister, Elaine Ryan, of Loveland, CO; three sons, Dennis (Marge) Skokan of Sioux City, IA; George (Mary) Skokan of Marana, AZ; and Ken (Lynn) Skokan of Tyndall, SD; one daughter, Mary Ann (Richard) Tramp of Belgrade, MT. Six grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren also survive her.
